Blogging and Twitter
A blog is an online journal that is presented in
chronological order to the reader.
Reflection blogging is a way to pause and think about what you have
learned, done or participated in. For
this assignment, I created, published and maintained a blog of my thoughts
relating to the new technologies I have learned by doing over the duration of
the semester in my Instructional Technology course. This reflection has proved to be a powerful
tool for deepening my learning, providing better retention of knowledge, and
connecting the knowledge gained from these new technologies to my existing
knowledge. Maintaining a blog is also a
good way to keep students apprised of course news, developments, or simply to
share supplemental materials to facilitate the learning process.
In addition to creating a reflection blog, we also we required to create and maintain a Twitter account. Twitter can also be viewed as micro blogging as responses are limited to 140 characters or less. Twitter describes itself as “a real-time information network that connects you to the latest information about what you find interesting. Simply find the public streams you find most compelling and follow the conversations.”
Both macro and micro blogging are interactive mediums that can impact student reflection, writing and communication with their classmates and instructors. Given that the current generation of students is always “online”, what better way to communicate with them than to also be online by using blogging techniques.
